Krishna Kanjilal- Background

Krishna Kanjilal, born in 1943 in New Delhi, has been a multi-dimensional person all her life. Winner of the All India D.V.Paluskar Gold Medal for Vocal Hindustani Classical Music, she has trained under Late Pandit Vinay Chandra Maudgalya, Late Shri Sunil Bose & Late Shri Vasant Thakar. She has also received special guidance in voice culture from Late Pandit Omkarnath Thakur. She has done music direction for documentary films & serious theatre in Mumbai (eg., M.S.Sathyu's 'Mitti Ki Gadi'). Krishna has also specialised in indepth investigative lead feature articles with policy implications, writing under the name of Krishna Chaudhari & Krishna Kanjilal Chaudhari. Her articles have been published in The Illustrated Weekly of India, Times Weekly, Indian Film Culture, Economic Times, Patriot, Mainstream & other publications. Krishna was Member of Jury for the Mumbai Film Forum's Dada Saheb Phalke Award for best direction (1972) & a member of the editorial board & preview committee of the Federation of Film Societies of India, Northern Zone. She was also a regular columnist as a film critic & music critic for National dailies & journals. Her paper titled 'Communication Information Revolution: Multi Dimensional Model for India & The Third World' (serialized in Mainstream in October & November 1984), was the basis of a national debate culminating in a five day national seminar on the same subject, organized by eminent stalwarts at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. Krishna has also worked in socio-economic & developmental action research & implementation at the grass roots in rural & urban settings. She lives & works in New Delhi with her daughter Sonali, who is an artist.
